About CSR and Employee Volunteerism

KS Distribution encourages its employees to be responsible citizens who are environmentally conscious and make every effort to conserve energy and reduce wastage. Employee volunteerism is also strongly encouraged and the Company strives to play its part in corporate giving and philanthropy. This is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiatives. Our employee volunteerism programme was formally started in early 2011 with the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Singapore (“MDAS”). Card making sessions were organised to provide our friends from MDAS with an activity that is both enjoyable as well as therapeutic. Our employee volunteers participated together in the sessions and assisted our friends from the MDAS in the card making.  A social cum bowling event aptly titled “Bowling Rolling Fun” was organised on 19 Nov to provide our friends from MDAS with an opportunity to participate in bowling which would normally be not available to them. More than 50 of our friends from MDAS (including their family members) participated alongside our staff who assisted the MDAS bowlers and also served as cheerleaders to provide moral support.

A CSR Taskforce comprising of volunteers was also formed during the year. The key responsibility of the Taskforce is to raise awareness of the importance of the environment; introduce programmes targeted at energy conservation; recycling and waste reduction as well as to expand our employee volunteerism activities. As part of its efforts, a section on the KS Distribution intranet was created to provide useful resources and information to staff on areas such as, the importance of and tips on energy savings, reducing waste and recycling. In our efforts to encourage recycling and waste reduction, a donation cum recycling drive was held on 7 and 8 Dec in conjunction with The Salvation Army. Staff generously donated clothes, household items, books and toys. A contest was also organised to obtain ideas and suggestions that could be implemented. Some of the winning suggestions will be implemented in the coming year.In line with our commitment to CSR, the Company has registered as a corporate member of the Singapore Compact for CSR as well as signed the Pledge to be a Fair Employer.
